Are all your products are Cruelty-free, Paraben-free, Aluminum free, and Sulfate free?

These questions seem to be popping up everywhere these days! All our products are Cruelty-free, Paraben-free, Aluminum free, and Sulfate free and not tested on animals. Because, really, we believe putting shampoo on a bunny is just dumb. We're LEAPING-BUNNY CERTIFIED!

Your deodorant label says "no propylene glycol" but one of the ingredients is "propanediol." Aren't those the same thing?

Yes and no. While they perform much of the same function, propanediol is derived from sustainable and renewable fermentation of corn, while propylene glycol is synthesized from a petrochemical. If you'd like to know more, check out this awesome page on the subject:

Where does the 'fragrance' come from that is listed as one of your ingredients in the Citrus Blossom deodorant?

The fragrance in the citrus blossom deodorant is a combination of essential oils from orange peels, and a botanical fragrance from the flowering orange blossoms.

Sodium Stearate? That sounds scary!

It does, but unlike ghost and goblins, it's really not. Sodium stearate is the sodium salt of stearic acid, which is a preservative. At Zion Health, we get our stearate from vegetable origins.

The clay mask and acne terminator make me break out on my chin! What gives?

It's strange, we know. The clay pulls toxins out of your body, which can result in breakouts. It'll take a few applications before your skin is completely clear. As with most other things in life, good things come to those who wait!

I just tried some of the energy powder. It's great for energizing, but what's with the high iron content: 170% of the daily value?! Isn't that toxic?

The iron in the clay isn't absorbed by the body like a traditional iron tablet would be. You don't have to worry about toxicity.

Is it safe to consume clay while pregnant?

According to the Clay Cure book by Ran Knishinsky, clay is safe for pregnant women, and known to have beneficial properties that help relieve nausea and vomiting.

Does clay help with weight loss?

When consumed, clay temporarily satisfies the hunger and creates feeling of fullness. For this same reason, clay may help keep the weight off. It expands in the stomach, making less room for the food, and thereby may help relieve the pangs of hunger.

I love the idea of detoxing with clay, but I'm worried about my medications. Will the detox powder absorb prescription medications and cause issues?

We'd like to say no, but we're not doctors and if you're on any prescriptions you should always talk to your doctor before adding or subtracting any natural (or other) remedies.

I have heard clay is good for ulcers. Is this true?

Many homeopathic doctors recommend edible clay to help relieve ulcers, however, the clay must be a smectite (montmorillonite) because not all clay is the same. The clay is known to help alkalinize an acid stomach One teaspoon can be taken twice per day and as needed if the ulcer suddenly flares up.

I'm worried about properly storing clay-based products.

Storing clay-based body care products doesn’t require special precautions; it is enough to keep them in dry, room-temperature conditions.

I have terrible allergies; can clay help with that?

Good news! Clay has been known to help relieve symptoms of allergies and hay fever. The adsorptive surfaces of the clay prevent the allergic reaction by quickly neutralizing allergens before these foreign invaders can attach themselves to the blood cells. Water-soluble allergens are bound up by the clay because of its intense hydrophilic (water-loving) nature. One heaping teaspoon once per day in a glass of purified water will be sufficient.

I heard that clay supplements are also sold for pets. Can I give Kanwa Minerals Powder to my dog?

Montmorillonite clay gained national exposure after it was featured on the Discovery Channel. The clay works as a detoxifier and is gaining popularity with veterinarians, both holistic and traditional. Montmorillonite clay, available as a powder, can be mixed in water. When ingested, the clay naturally clings to internal toxins and flushes them from the animal's system through the colon. If you are interested in adding montmorillonite to your pet's diet, it is recommended you give your pet one-eighth to one-quarter teaspoon twice per day. This serving can either be sprinkled over their food or added to their water. The clay will be even more effective if your pet is fed a protein-rich diet that is low in starches and carbohydrates.

I have terrible back pain. Do you think clay could help with this?

Although there are many things clay is good for, pain relief isn't necessarily one of them. If you're looking for a reduction in inflammation and/or swelling, try our Alozin Pain Spray!

Where are your products manufactured?

All our products are manufactured in the US

Anti-frizz? Original? Coconut? You have so many shampoos and conditioners! How do I pick?

We do, but that's only because we want all our customers to find one that's perfectly suited to them! The anti-frizz products are best for humid climates and frizzy, fly-away hair.

I was reading your conditioner bottle the other day and I realized the instructions said to "rinse with cool water." Does it really matter what kind of water I use to rinse my hair?!

First of all, way to read directions! Although it's not 100% required to use cold water, we strongly recommend it. Cold water closes hair follicles, which prevents damage and locks in moisture. Warm water, on the other hand, opens them. Really, it's not THAT a big deal. The follicle's going to close eventually at room temperature, but isn't that a cool little factoid?
